Melvins and Le Butcherettes at the Roseland Theater on Oct. 19, 2014

On the fourth night of their fall tour, Melvins' Buzz Osborne and Dale Crover alongside bassist Jeff Pinkus (of the Butthole Sufers) were an absolute powerhouse trio from beginning to end. From the opening of "Pigs of the Roman Empire," their approach was heavy and relentless as they played a nonstop, 14-song set that included new songs "Onions Make The Milk Taste Bad" and my favorite "Bride of Crankenstein" from their latest release Hold It In. Other highlights were standout versions of "Night Goat" and "We Are Doomed" along with their covers of "Moving to Florida" (Butthole Surfers), "Youth of America" (The Wipers), and the closing "Fascists Eat Donuts" (Pop-O-Pies). With more than 20 albums and 30-plus years in action, the Melvins proved beyond doubt that they are not done!

Teri Gender Bender (aka Teri Suárez) with Lia Braswell on drums of Le Butcherettes opened the night with their brand of punky garage rock.
