Approaching the 18th year of Yonder Mountain String Band’s signature festival, there’s a familiarity to this familial gathering that those who have gone now know by heart and those who haven’t soon will. The beauty of Strummit is the community that’s been built over the years. There’s the tried-and-true tradition of Yonder’s sets (which started it all), there’s the growth of local favorites like Fruition and Shook Twins, and there’s the spontaneity of sets from Galactic and Trampled By Turtles this year. There are newcomers made up of veterans (Five Letter Word and TK & The Holy Know-Nothings) and moments that only happen at Horning’s—particularly the powerful female energy of supergroup Sideboob and their love for ’90s divas.
