The 40th annual Cathedral Park Jazz Festival 2020 will be virtual Friday through Sunday, July 17-19, 2020. Celebrating jazz, R&B, blues, and funk, highlights of this year’s festival will include violinist Eddie Parente who will be channelling jazz violinists such as Stuff Smith, Stephane Grappelli, and Joe Venuto; in a tribute to Dr. John, late New Orleans pianist, will be The Bayou Boyz; and Saeeda Wright, soulful vocalist — who has sung backup for Lalah Hathaway, Live Warfield, Prince, and others — and her nine-piece orchestra. This festival “is both the longest-running free annual jazz festival west of the Mississippi – and Portland’s longest-running annual community event.” The lineup for July 19 includes Minidoka Swing Band, John JB Butler Quartet, Christopher Brown, Mel Brown Trio & special guest Shirley Nanette, and Tezeta Band.
