Mat Randol is a Portland-born and -raised emcee (shout out to St. Johns!) who strives to live his life with intent, and his most recent releases illuminate that message. As an artist and a father on the verge of 30, Randol exudes confidence and warmth in the way he operates and performs. There is an undeniable authenticity to his lyrical content on his 2015 record alignment., and on his most recent EP, Libero (December 2016), lyrically he seems to be breaching the level of the intellectual rappers who have informed and inspired his style, including Black Thought, Common, Mos Def and Talib Kweli.

The birth of his son seems to have birthed a new beginning and mentality for the rapper, and his pure intentions—the pursuit of progress both socially and on an intrapersonal level—seem to be fueling his best work to date. “If you have children, that should change everything. It should make everything come into perspective for sure. It did for me.”

Randol’s energy is infectious. His words and self-awareness inspire those around him to remain optimistic, to believe that you can manifest your own destiny, and to overcome becoming a product of your environment.
