The 32nd edition of the Northwest Film Center's Reel Music Festival kicks off on Friday, October 10 at 7pm with the Elliott Smith documentary Heaven Adores You. (And not only will director Nickolas Rossi will be in attendance, but The Portland Cello Project will kick off the evening at 6:30pm with a set of Elliott Smith songs—watch the trailer below.) And while the film will show again on Sunday, October 12 at noon, the NWFC's music-themed fest runs for two October weeks and screens more than two dozen diverse films.

From the 20th anniversary of Queens rapper Nas' seminal debut and the Talking Heads' definitive Stop Making Sense, to a live score by 2014 Grammy nominee Tom Peters for the vampire classic Nosferatu, to rockin' "Jingle Bells," Northwest directors will show off films that highlight women in jazz (Seattle's Kay Ray with Lady Be Good: Instrumental Women In Jazz), the Appalachian story of the original Carter Family (The Winding Stream) by Portland director Beth Harrington, and the gritty, gawky, Lance Bangs-directed Slint documentary Breadcrumb Trail.
